This is Paul Baxter, extreamly talented 3rd year Glass blowing student at UCA and barman at the SU.
I am really happy with how this drawing turned out! I usually really struggle drawing faces with glasses as it throws me off on proportion, however this one seems to have turned out ok! I also like how I have drawn more of the body, in comparison to my others.
I was tempted to add colour, but after asking my friend if it needed colour we both agreed against it, I think now adding colour would have taken something away from this and made it look less interesting and more flat.

Read all about it!
My second Journalism student, talented 3rd year Jayne Ermine Horswill, regular writer in UCA's magazine Glue! (http://gluehere.com/)
Obviously her being a journalism student (and the fact I had a newspaper next to me) I played with collage and drawing. I think this looks effective. However in the original photo she is looking directly at us, and usually that's all I can draw, however I couldn't quite capture it today! I think this one works well. I like the more quick sketch style in this one.

Re do!
Sorry for the long pause! I've been unwell and it's also been Christmas!
Here is the re done drawing of Jenna! I'm much happier with this one!
I think this one is more of a true likeness, and looks more finished!

No post on...Wednesday?
Sorry there haven't been any updates today! Been a bit under the weather, so I haven't had a chance to do any work, or even get out of bed for that matter!
Back to the regular show tomorrow!

Happy Snapper
Ming Wu, 3rd year Product design student at UCA, SU Photographer and resident crazy!
I am extremely pleased with this one! I think I'm starting to get back into the swing of drawing faces and will re-do Jenna's portrait tomorrow! I like this one being left just as is in pencil. I think if I added colour it would take something away.
Hot off the press
This is Lauren Chappell, Journalism student at my university!
This one was a bit trickier as I had to play with shadows around the face and it was quite hard to show with watercolour, when I usually paint faces I paint them with acrylic so this has been a bit of challenge of sorts, however I am quite happy with the drawing. The angle was quite tricky to drawing but I think I captured it well, but I think I honestly need more practice, so this project will hopefully make me a stronger drawer.
Rough cut
As I do these am posting them, so I don't get lazy and do them all in a batch and can't comment on each one!
This one is of my college and extremely talented film production student Jamie Sims! be sure to check out his new short film he is making for his graduation: http://www.howlshortfilm.com/
I'm really happy with how this turned out. I particularly like the use of one colour.and just emphasis on the eyes, as in the original photo his eyes stood out the most.
I think I need to keep working on this style and playing with emphasis on singular features.

50 shades of people
This is in no relation to that awful book, I just thought it would make a funny title.
Another interesting project we have been given for the holidays was to draw 50 peoples faces (hence the cheesy title) with my drawing a day I'll be posting the faces along with them.
Here is my first drawing, it is of fellow illustrator Jenna Brown (http://jenpenn.tumblr.com/)

I think this one isn't my most successful drawing, but to be quite honest I haven't been practising my face drawing too much recently, however I may re draw this in the future.
The reason i chose this photo was because of the deep bags round her eyes I thought that they looked really quite interesting, and so I played with exaggeration of the colours, making the purple and blues 'pop' as such.

Drawing a day
So in my illustration class we have been given a project to do one drawing a day, to record an even as such.
Here are the ones I have done so far, I'm hoping to push myself even more, to produce better stuff!
